Exposed ceiling beams have a rough and rustic look. Showcase them by keeping walls and furnishings neutral. And just as rustic furnishings go well with exposed beams, so does French-country style, which can make your bedroom feel like it's in Provence.






With creamy neutral walls, an off-white blanket and tan carpeting, this bedroom does red in all the right ways. Red pillows pick up the red in the window treatments, while a set of three prints framed with red matting makes the room charming and chic.

Since we don't entertain in our bedrooms, it's easy to put off decorating them. But, you should treat your bedroom with the same care you do your living room and dining room; you do spend one-third of your life in it!

Your nightstands don't have to match. If you prefer a feminine style and your partner likes a more masculine look, choose different ones. Why should only one person love the master bedroom?

If your bedroom doesn't get a lot of natural light, don't cover up the windows with heavy treatments. Consider sheer curtains to help keep the room bright.

Avoid big blank walls; it will make a room feel under-scale and empty. Fill a large wall with an extra-large piece of artwork. In this case, a black and white photograph makes the room feel glamorous and modern.

Blue and white is a classic color combination in the bedroom. Note the different shades of blue incorporated into the throw pillows, bedding, accents and walls. A splash of sage green in the art above the bed breaks it up and adds another layer of color.
